The simple, classical styling of the Serif double drapery rod from Umbra compliments virtually any interior decor. This complete kit includes two 5/8-inch (1-1/2 cm) diameter telescoping metal rods, four shapely molded finials, decorative cast-metal double-rod mounting brackets, and all installation hardware. The double-rod design holds one set of drapery panels in front, 3-3/4-inch from the wall, and a second set behind, 1-1/2-inch from the wall - perfect for layering opaque and sheer panels in order to control privacy and light levels. Designed to fit a variety of window sizes, this unit extends from 48 to 88-inch (122 to 224 cm) long using an auxiliary rod that fits inside the main rod for added length and support. Other lengths are also available. Choose from a variety of finishes and coordinate your look with matching drapery panel hold-backs (sold separately). Designed by Michelle Ivankovic for Umbra - the worldwide leader in casual, contemporary and affordable design for the home.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

Poor Design
While this product look nice, you would have to put up with holding the rod(s) in place as you open the curtains or risk having them break apart where they join. It's not going to give you a concussion when the rod hits your head but it gets really annoying having to "thread" the curtain through again every time this happens. There are no screws to tighten at the ends. I have contacted Umbra twice already about this - once by phone where I actually got a live person, the other by email. Neither produced any response. They did not even attempt to remedy this problem...NOTHING (nice going, Umbra). I guess they want you to spend more money on their double rod drapery brackets (search "Umbra Double Drapery Rod Bracket" on amazon.com) which render the curly brackets useless - the same curly brackets whose cost have already been factored in the purchase price of the Serif Drapery Double Rod Set.

Looks nice but not worth the hassle.
Curtain rods pull apart whenever you open or close the drapes. I needed the 108" rods so the telescoping was a real problem. I hate the telescoping aspect of rods anyway since the rings never want to slide easily of the joint of the two. I ended up buying two sets for each window so I could butt the thicker rods up to each other without exposing the thinner rods but that doubled the cost and still did not entirely eliminate the problem of the rods pulling apart. At least now when you open the curtains they don't fall down, you just have to push the rods back together before the rings will slide over the rod easily. If I had to do it all over again. I would not buy these rods. I love the way they look but they are a real pain. I would return them but I've already drilled the holes in my walls....
